Exhibition: The Landing Project,
Open Day/Exhibition 27th September '25
'Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.
There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the earth' Rumi
I set myself a months 'residency at a distance' and start to make new work at home. I draw. I work with chalks and memory and repurposed paper. I work through graphite.
I recall this place, I recall the work I have seen made by Andrew Howe and Molly Brown over the years of their developing creative practices in response to associated projects; print, sound, collaboration.
I wonder about the patterns of seasons, relationships to animals. The political arguments that circle farming, animal farming. This brave inclusive place where thinking feels bright and urgent.

This opportunity has introduced the concept of 'gentling'. I recall walking last year with Molly to meet her sheep and she talked of the practice of 'gentling' - I think of the beautiful pigs at the farm. This ignited connection. It has informed existing practices of reciprocal witnessing, the gaze - longing.
I think of presence
I think of blindness - I sharpen my attention
I listen to talks by Temple Grandin "Animals make us Human'. I look at photographs by Tina Tryforos and Jo Longhurst. I read John Bergers 'How to Look at Animals' and dip into 'The Animal Question in Deconstruction' Ed. Lynn Turner.
Passages of Gentling: by air, by touch

My thanks to Andrew Howe and Molly Brown for this invitation to engage with their project, make new work and meet a wonderful cohort of exhibiting artists.
