Back Garden Residency, curated by Ros Bason, took place over
a period of six months in 2022/23. Seven artists were invited to
respond to an intimate place interpreted as ‘garden’.
‘Clearing a back garden ahead of a house move this place had been
a sanctuary and left to develop its own wildness, while I sat and watched
and listened.
Out of that space I gathered objects, sound and film that seemed
curiously beautiful to me. Plants observed through many cycles of life,
including a leaf turned to a poised and translucent form.
An old garden chair I recalled from a childhood sunroom, its memory
bound by salty air and tea times in the sun.
Wonder continues to infuse the process of looking and discovery;
how light can regenerate life in the most unlikely of circumstances'.
Residency outcomes were first shown through an Instagram takeover.
